I seem to have come down with Swine Flu.
I was forbidden to visit the surgery. Instead I spoke on the phone to the triage nurse (in reality the fantastic and super-efficient senior nurse!) who, in consultation with the Swine Flu Helpline (a version accessible by medical staff only) decided that I should be given a prescription for Tamiflu. I then had a visit from a doctor (dressed in gloves and mask!) who took throat and nose swabs. He would then have to take them to the laboratory at the hospital himself. He test my wife at the same time.
I feel like crap, so might not be updating Thats News for a while. The services of Dr Jack Daniels may be called upon, I feel...

Sorry to hear you've fallen victim to the dreaded pig lurgy, Newsy. My sister had it a few weeks ago. She says it's like ordinary flu, with all its attendant horrors, but with a nasty extra strep throat-like symptom (dry, painful cough, sore throat etc.). Horrid.
Get well soon :)
Poor bastard. Don't die.
Glad you sisters, OK. Den!
The sore throat is a bugger, though, I agree with her on that. Strepsils Cool seems to be doing the trick. As well as Dr Jack Daniels and Tamiflu!
And Richard, though I have every intention of dying eventually, I'll not let a sniffle do for me!
Ah yes, a visit from Dr Daniels. Ideal. And, of course, house calls are his speciality ;)
Apparently I probably don't have swine flu.
The tests came back negative, so it is probably Australian Flu. The one they were scared about coming to the UK, before they had swine flu to worry about!
Sounds like you got a bloody good service from the NHS.
It varies.
